Another great vintage racing show
The Labor Day weekend each year is a wonderful time to visit Lime Rock Park in Connecticut. The beauty of the area and the beauty of Lime Rock Park are two great reasons to celebrate vintage racing at its best. The Lime Rock Historic Festival 2019 was the 37th annual fest of old racing cars. The weather cooperated for virtually the entire weekend. Autumn was ushered in with the sights and sounds of glorious racing cars from multiple eras.
Formula Ford (left) was the featured class this year and they put on a great show with close racing throughout the whole field. Of course, close racing is what has endeared Formula Ford to drivers and spectators alike over the years.
The Lime Rock Historic Festival is not only a great time to see vintage race cars doing their thing. It’s a great time to admire the beautiful cars in the parking lot as well. Then there is the “Sunday in the Park” concours event as well. Several hundred cars new and old lined the track from the Downhill Turn well past No Name Straight. Cars from the turn of the 20th century were on display as well as cars from the 21st century.
The best way to recap the event
Pictures. Below you’ll find a gallery of a multitude of vintage race cars. There were far too many to picture here. Some of the most interesting are below.
Ultimately, you must attend one of these annual events! It’s a great weekend in the Connecticut sun at a gorgeous track. The facility just gets better and better each year under the watchful ownership of former race car driver Skip Barber. Lime Rock Park is one of the great family-friendly venues in the race car universe. I’ve spent so many great days watching top-tier racing here, as has my family. My kids virtually grew up here; the track is short and the facility compact so that keeping track of family members is easy.
Plan to visit Lime Rock Park in 2020. Their website will keep you up to date.
